February 27, 2014

According to China Electronics News on February 26, Shang Bing, Vice Minister of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), stated in a speech at GTI (Global TD-LTE Initiative) 2014 in Barcelona that China's mobile Internet development showed three trends worth noting in 2013: smartphone sales exceeded 70% of overall mobile phone sales; mobile Internet traffic grew over 70%; the contribution rate of mobile Internet for industrial growth topped 70%. Shang added that, as these trends will bring new opportunities for China's development of the 4G industry, China will cooperate with GTI to promote the industry chain of TD-LTE (Time Division Long-Term Evolution), speed up the progress in VoLTE (Voice over LTE) trials, and optimize technological schemes for the convergence of TD-LTE and FDD-LTE (Frequency Division LTE), so as to promote large-scale commercialization of TD-LTE around the world.
